With almost 50 years on the clock and with the prestigious title of being the best-selling car in history, the Corolla is marketed in the U.S. in sedan and hatchback bodywork with a 1.8-liter engine that develops 137 horses and 170 Nm of torque. It joins CVT or six-speed manual gearboxes.
Another renowned Japanese car appears among the 10 most successful cars in the American market. It is the Honda Civic that has been on the streets for 45 years. The standard model of the Civic is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that produces 158 horsepower. It’s linked to manual or CVT boxes, and like the Corolla it’s available in a sedan and hatchback body, the most unkempt being the well-known Type R.
Powered by a 1.5-liter turbo or 2.0-stroke engine (it will debut with a 1.6-turbodiesel block in a few weeks), the Equinox got more demure. It used to be equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was replaced precisely by the 2.0 heart: it went from 301 horsepower to 252 Hp. This way it also gained in efficiency: it jumped from 10 km/l on the road to 12.3 km/l in the same regime.
The top-ranked Nissan gets into the fight thanks to the conventional Rogue and the smaller Rogue Sport. It is equipped with a 2.5 liter block of 170 horses, attached to a CVT box. In Chile is marketed under the name X-Trail.
Another Toyota in the ring. The historic Camry has its well earned prestige in North America. It is sold with 2.5 and 3.5 liter engines, capable of developing 203 and 301 Hp, respectively, in addition to a hybrid variant from the Prius.
The star relative of the Japanese house is an old acquaintance in the United States. This off-roader -marked as the eternal rival of Toyota’s RAV4- opens the portfolio with a 2.4-liter engine that squeezes 184 horsepower and another 1,500 cc turbocharged engine that develops 190 horsepower. “Only six horses, but they make the CR-V 1.5 feel much more powerful,” explains Autoblog.
This RAV4 is equipped with the same heart of the model being sold. We are talking about a combination of a 2.5 liter combustion engine, plus an electric one, which results in 219 horses.
Toyota RAV4 10 cars
Whether by its design or its generous efficiency, which extends to 23.5 km/l, the RAV4 makes almost 25 thousand units different from its direct competitor.
The first van to occupy the podium among the 10 best-selling cars is Chevrolet’s Silverado. General Motors’ full-size pickup is offered with a 4.3-liter (285 Hp) V6 block in its base version, then advances to a 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbo charged, which achieves 310 horsepower, passes through a 5.3-liter V8 of 355 Hp (which is marketed in Chile) and closes with the top of the line, also V8 although this time with a 6.2-liter cylinder capable of providing 420 horsepower.
RAM 1500 – 3500
The ram brand has marketed on two sides this year. It has combined the sales of the last generation and adds units to the successor version. The new options attack the market with 3.6 liter V6 blocks, a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 and a variant driven by a 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel engine.
And first place, by far, goes to Ford’s F Series. The undisputed queen of the United States feels her enormous supremacy with four versions of mechanics. It starts with a 3.3 V6, raises the stakes with a 2.7 EcoBoost V6 of 325 Hp and an EcoBoost V6 this time of 3.5 liters (375 horses) and closes with a 5.0 liter V8 that borders the 400 Hp.
The Rogue / X-Trail
It is one of the vehicles that share position among the 10 most sold cars in both markets. If in the United States it put more than 200 thousand units in the second quarter, in our country it registers 2,255 registrations until the end of April. As it says in the description, in North America it is marketed only with its hybrid mechanics.
Finally, the Ford-F150 (the smallest of the F Series in the USA) is noted as the most commercialized full-size truck in Chile. It registers 847 placements between January and April, taking the ninth place in a ranking where it runs alone among the medium sized pick-ups. In the United States, it almost doubles its FCA rival.
